Baltimore Struggles to Maintain Lead
The Baltimore Orioles entered Globe Life Field looking to establish offensive momentum, and they did so initially against Texas Rangers starter Jacob deGrom. In the first inning, Austin Holliday provided an early spark by hitting a 403-foot home run to right field, giving Baltimore a 1-0 advantage.
However, the Orioles’ lead was short-lived. In the second inning, they managed to tie the game at 1-1 when Andrew Velazquez grounded into a fielder’s choice, allowing Corey Julks to score from third base. The momentum shifted further in Texas’s favor moments later when Nick Senzel reached on an infield single to shortstop, advancing Velazquez to second.
With runners in scoring position, Austin Hays singled up the middle, driving in Senzel to make it 2-1 for the home team. A throwing error by Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson allowed Hays to score from third on a subsequent play, extending Texas’s advantage to 3-1.
Pitching Performance Defines Early Innings
Despite giving up three runs, deGrom was largely effective through five innings of work. He limited Baltimore to just three hits and one earned run while striking out nine batters. His performance kept the Orioles off balance for much of the early game, though a critical error in the second inning proved costly.
The Orioles’ bullpen attempted to stabilize the game but faced significant challenges. Kyle Bradish took the loss after pitching six innings, allowing five hits and one earned run with four strikeouts. Relief pitcher Rico Garcia provided a quiet eighth inning, striking out two batters without allowing a hit or run.
However, Grant Wolfram struggled in his appearance, giving up three earned runs on one hit and two walks while striking out three.
