Burger Powers Rangers Past Mariners
Jake Burger delivered the decisive blows for the Texas Rangers on Saturday, homering and singling to drive in three runs as Texas edged the Seattle Mariners 5-4 at Globe Life Field. The win improves the Rangers’ record to 52-51, while Seattle drops to 51-53 in the AL West.
Burger’s offensive output proved critical in a game defined by momentum swings. He opened the scoring surge in the fourth inning with a 362-foot home run to right field. The blast tied the game at 1-1 and brought home Corey Duran, giving Texas a 3-1 advantage.
Later in the sixth inning, Burger singled to center field, allowing Brandon Nimmo to score and put the Rangers ahead 4-3. His drive also advanced him to second base before Luis García Jr. scored on a sacrifice bunt by Josh Smith, extending the lead to 5-3.
Mariners Fight Back
The Mariners refused to go quietly. They took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Luke Raley homered to left field (384 feet). Seattle tied the game in the second inning when Wyatt Langford singled to right, scoring Nathaniel Lowe.
The Mariners reclaimed the lead in the fifth inning when Josh Smith doubled to center field, bringing home Raley and Kyle Lewis. This put Seattle up 3-2, but the Rangers immediately answered to tie it at 3-3.
Seattle regained the lead in the sixth inning when Josh Smith’s single scored Brandon Nimmo, making it 4-3. Another play in the sixth saw Josh Smith score on a sacrifice bunt, pushing the margin to 5-3. However, the Mariners’ offense stalled in the ninth inning. Despite scoring a run on a wild pitch by Tyler Alexander, the effort was insufficient to overcome the deficit.
