Rangers Rally Behind Burger to Beat Rays 8-6

Burger Powers Late Surge

The Texas Rangers used a powerful offensive performance from Jake Burger to secure an 8-6 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday at Globe Life Field. The win improved the Rangers' record to 71-73, while the Rays fell to 85-58. Attendance for the contest was 33,285.

Burger was the standout performer, hitting two home runs to lead the Rangers' scoring effort. The first came in the second inning, a shot to left-center that traveled 402 feet. His second homer arrived in the fourth inning, a drive to center field that measured 428 feet and scored one run.

Scoring Sequence

The Rangers took an early lead in the second inning, scoring four runs to build a 4-0 advantage. This burst of offense was driven by singles and bunts that moved runners to scoring positions. Mesa Jr. singled to left, allowing Simpson to score.

Fortes reached on a bunt single, bringing in Mateo. Díaz then singled to center, scoring Mesa Jr., and Aranda hit a sacrifice fly to center, bringing in Fortes.

The Rays responded immediately in the top of the second, with Burger's homer cutting the lead to 4-1. In the fourth inning, Burger’s second home run extended the Rays' lead to 5-1. However, the Rangers tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the fourth when Foscue doubled to right, scoring O'Hoppe and Duran.

The Rays regained the lead in the fifth inning. Díaz singled to center, scoring Burger, and Duran singled to right, scoring O'Hoppe. This gave Tampa Bay a 7-5 lead.

The Rangers cut the deficit to 6-7 in the seventh when DeLuca singled to center, scoring Simpson. The final run of the game was scored by the Rays in the eighth when Seager homered to left-center, a 396-foot shot.

Pitching Performance

Trevor Williams earned the win for the Rangers, pitching two scoreless innings with one walk and no hits. He was credited with the win to improve his record to 1-0. Jakob Junis recorded the save, pitching one inning without allowing a hit, walk, or run. He finished with a save to bring his total to six.

For the Rays, Steven Matz took the loss. He pitched one inning, allowing three hits and two earned runs while walking one batter and striking out one. He dropped to a 5-5 record. Ian Seymour started for Tampa Bay, pitching three innings and allowing five hits and three earned runs.

The Rangers' bullpen provided key support, with Trevor Williams, Chase Silseth, Tyler Alexander, and Jacob Latz all contributing scoreless or limited-inning outings to protect the lead and secure the victory.
