Rangers Fall to Angels 5-2 as Trout Drives in Key Runs

The Texas Rangers faced a difficult offensive night on Thursday, managing only two runs against a Los Angeles Angels pitching staff that held them to just five hits. Despite a competitive effort from the visiting club, the Angels secured a 5-2 victory in front of 33,733 fans at Angel Stadium in Anaheim.

Trout’s Impact

Mike Trout was the catalyst for the Angels’ offense, recording two singles to center field. His first hit in the third inning allowed Jose Guzman to score, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Trout later singled again in the sixth inning, driving in Luis Peraza to extend the Angels' lead to 4-2.

Trout also walked in the second inning, setting the stage for Corey Seager’s home run that opened the scoring for Los Angeles.

Corey Seager provided the game’s only home run, launching a 378-foot shot to right field in the third inning. The blast gave the Angels an early 2-0 advantage. In the second inning, the Angels had taken a 1-0 lead when Andrew Heaney walked, allowing Matt Chapman to score.

Later, in the sixth inning, Taylor Ward doubled to left field, bringing in Zach Neto. Ward also scored on a sacrifice bunt by Guzman and a subsequent single by Trout, completing the three-run sixth that proved decisive.

Pitching Performance

George Klassen earned his first Major League win for the Angels, pitching six innings. He allowed five hits and two earned runs while striking out five batters and walking one. Blake Weiman pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing two hits and striking out one.

Ryan Watson contributed 2/3 of an inning without allowing a run, also recording one strikeout. Ben Joyce closed the game with a perfect inning, striking out one batter to secure his first save.

The Rangers’ starters struggled with consistency. Cal Quantrill pitched five innings, giving up four hits and one earned run while striking out six. However, the bullpen could not contain the Angels’ offense in the sixth inning.

Robby Ahlstrom entered with the game tied 2-2 and allowed three earned runs in just one-third of an inning, taking the loss. Peyton Gray pitched two-thirds of an inning without allowing a run, and Ben Peoples allowed one earned run in one inning. Cole Winn closed out the game for Texas with a hitless inning and no walks.

Final Records

With the loss, the Texas Rangers fell to 60-61. The Angels improved their record to 47-74.
