A Struggled Start for Texas
The Texas Rangers dropped their Friday, Aug. 28, contest against the Milwaukee Brewers, falling 6-1 in front of a crowd of 41,620 at American Family Field. The defeat leaves the Rangers with a 66-69 record, while Milwaukee improves to 84-51.
For the Rangers, the evening was defined by early struggles on the mound and a lack of offensive production that left them trailing from the first inning onward.
Brewers Strike Early
Milwaukee established a commanding lead before the second inning was complete. In the bottom of the first, Victor Caraterra grounded out to shortstop, allowing Turang to score and Bauers to advance to second. The Brewers added another run immediately after when Yelich doubled to center field, driving in Bauers.
This sequence gave Milwaukee a 2-0 advantage. The Rangers managed to cut the deficit to 2-1 in the top of the third when Jansen hit a home run to left field, traveling 395 feet. However, that was the only run Texas would score for the remainder of the game.
Henderson Dominates
Logan Henderson was the anchor for the Brewers, pitching seven innings while allowing just one hit and one earned run. He recorded seven strikeouts and issued no walks, earning the win to improve his record to 9-2. Henderson’s performance set the tone for the staff, which followed up with solid relief work.
Aaron Ashby pitched one inning with one hit, one walk, and two strikeouts, while DL Hall closed the game with one strikeout-free inning, striking out three batters.
Late Inning Momentum
The Brewers continued to extend their lead in the sixth inning when Hamilton singled to center, scoring Mitchell and moving Frelick to second. In the seventh, Contreras singled to center, allowing Bauers to score. The eighth inning proved to be the final chapter for Milwaukee.
Chourio singled to left, scoring Frelick and moving Hamilton to second. Contreras then hit a sacrifice fly to center, allowing Hamilton to score and Chourio to reach third. This final play capped the 6-1 victory for the Brewers.
