A bookstore chain that trades in secondhand titles is coming to Plano, and it will be the first of its kind in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

2nd & Charles plans to open near Preston Road and Park Boulevard, with December as the target, Scott Kappler, the company's executive vice president of operations, told The Dallas Morning News in a story published Monday. The store is expected to cover roughly 25,000 square feet.

The brand runs about 50 stores in other parts of Texas and the country but none in North Texas. Its three existing Texas locations include stores in Lubbock and the Houston area.

What the store sells

2nd & Charles is part of Books-A-Million, the larger chain that focuses on new books and already operates a store in Grapevine. The 2nd & Charles format is built around used titles: customers can bring in books to sell as well as buy them. New books are on the shelves too, along with vinyl records, trading cards and collectibles.

Kappler told the newspaper that Plano "really checks just every box" for the company, pointing to the area's large share of college-educated households. He described the expected customers as families and young professionals.

More shelves in the suburbs

The Plano store adds to a run of bookstore openings north of Dallas. According to the Morning News, Barnes & Noble has added a new shop in Prosper and Frisco is due to get a local bookstore this year. Dallas is also home to the headquarters of Half Price Books, the used-book chain with stores in more than 15 states.

The company did not give an exact address or opening date for the Plano location.
