Wrecking crews could start taking down The Shops at Willow Bend as soon as January or February, a real estate executive said Thursday, as the mall winds down ahead of a planned redevelopment built around a new home for the Dallas Stars.

Bill Cawley of Cawley Partners gave that timeline while speaking at Bisnow's 2026 Collin County State of the Market event, The Dallas Morning News reported. The mall is expected to close early next year, according to a mall statement released earlier this month.

A mall already half shut

The center has been closing in stages. Centennial, one of the mall's owners, had said parts of the property would transition on Sept. 1 as it entered what the company called its "next phase."

The Morning News reported that the mall recently closed off the large central section near Neiman Marcus, though some stores inside the main building are still open and can be reached through entrances near the ends of the building.

Neiman Marcus said last year that it would remain open until January 2027. Other anchors, including Macy's and Dillard's, closed earlier. Centennial CEO Steven Levin said in March that demolition would likely happen within 12 months.

What comes next

The roughly 90-acre site at 6121 W. Park Blvd. became the Stars' top choice after the team held talks with Frisco, The Colony, Arlington and Fort Worth. The team's lease at American Airlines Center ends in 2031. The plan calls for an arena plus a district with shops, restaurants and public gathering spaces.

The Plano City Council approved funding and incentives for the project in June, including more than $700 million in tax funding. Plano ISD has also said it will contribute up to $250 million toward the project. The city's share would come through a venue tax that voters will decide in the upcoming election, CBS News Texas reported.

Collin County lists Nov. 3 as Election Day, with early voting from Oct. 19 to Oct. 30.
