Anyone heading to the Collin County courthouse in McKinney for jury duty, a hearing or a records errand should plan for tighter parking starting next week.
Construction on the courthouse expansion project began Friday, Oct. 30, according to a notice Collin County posted on its website. Crews started in the west parking area and in a north staging area. On Monday, Nov. 9, the county will close the east elevated parking lot, a move it says affects about 180 public parking spaces.
The courthouse, formally the Russell A. Steindam Courts Building, sits at 2100 Bloomdale Road, just west of U.S. 75. It handles cases for the whole county, so the closure affects residents from Plano and every other Collin County city.
What the site plan shows
A site logistics map attached to the notice marks the main pieces:
- North staging: the open land north of the building, where work began Oct. 30.
- West parking: a lot on the building's west side, also fenced off starting Oct. 30.
- East elevated parking: the lot between the courthouse and the U.S. 75 frontage road, labeled for closure Nov. 9.
The plan labels areas north and east of the existing building as a "proposed Phase 2 courthouse expansion" and a "proposed courthouse expansion," and the project title on the map is "Courthouse Expansion & Garage Construction." A construction entrance on the north side carries a Crossland sign directing visitors and subcontractors to a job trailer.
