Bank of America has confirmed that all of its approximately 3,500 branches across the United States will be closed for a full day on September 7. The closure is in observance of Labor Day, a federal holiday that falls on the first Monday of September each year to recognize the contributions of the American workforce.
The shutdown aligns with the Federal Reserve’s holiday schedule, which most financial institutions follow. While physical branches will not be open for business, customers can still access their funds through alternative channels. The bank’s network of more than 15,000 ATMs will remain operational on the holiday.
Mobile banking applications will also function normally, allowing account holders to withdraw cash, deposit checks, transfer money, and view balances. However, any transactions initiated on September 7 will not be processed until the next business day, September 8. These funds will remain in a pending status until then.
The bank advises customers to plan ahead for payments due on Labor Day. Mortgage, rent, or credit card payments scheduled for that date may face processing delays. Generally, payments are not considered late if they are initiated on the due date, even with the federal holiday interruption.
Automated phone systems will remain active during the closure, providing limited support for issues such as lost or stolen cards. The next scheduled branch closure is set for October 12, in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
