The Toyota GR GT has reached a sold-out status in the United States before the model has officially launched. According to reports, Toyota allocated between 200 and 250 units for the American market, and this initial inventory has been pre-assigned to individuals already known to the brand's GR division.
Andrew Gilleland, Senior Vice President at Toyota Motor North America, stated that the limited availability is intentional. He explained that the company does not have enough vehicles to satisfy all demand and that this scarcity is by design. Gilleland noted that the manufacturer aims to avoid selling to flippers and instead prioritizes buyers who are known to drive their vehicles regularly.
The vehicle made its US debut at Monterey Car Week, where significant interest was recorded. Reports indicate that more than 150 customers expressed interest in purchasing the car at The Quail event alone. There are also accounts of individuals lobbying Gilleland directly to secure a purchase slot.
The GR GT is positioned as Toyota’s next halo supercar. The powertrain consists of a front-mounted 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine combined with a single electric motor. This setup produces 640 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque, transmitted through an 8-speed automatic transmission.
