All three Plano ISD senior high volleyball teams play bi-district matches Thursday night, and two of them will share a floor.

Plano West meets Euless Trinity at 5:30 p.m. at Carrollton R.L. Turner High School in Class 6A Division I, and Plano follows in the same gym at 7 p.m. against Haltom in 6A Division II, according to pairings compiled by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and Star Local Media.

Plano East plays South Grand Prairie at 6:30 p.m. at Dallas Thomas Jefferson High School, also in Division I.

The three schools finished first, second and third in District 7-6A. Division placement follows enrollment, with each district's two biggest qualifying schools going to Division I. That put East and West in that bracket and sent the district champion Wildcats to Division II. Every opponent comes from District 8-6A.

Plano vs. Haltom

Plano (33-8) took the 7-6A title at 12-2 and is ranked No. 23 in Texas by MaxPreps. Its opponent finished fourth in 8-6A at 6-7 and is 13-20, per the Star-Telegram's pairings.

The title was Plano's first outright district championship in a season Star Local Media described as the program's winningest in 11 years. It was not a runaway. Plano East took a four-setter from the Wildcats on Sept. 22, and Coppell handed them their other league loss on Oct. 9.

The Wildcats have already seen one 8-6A playoff team this fall. Plano beat Trinity 3-1 on Aug. 11, its first match of the season, MaxPreps shows.

Plano East vs. South Grand Prairie

Plano East (29-11) took second in 7-6A at 11-3. South Grand Prairie (24-8) was the 8-6A runner-up at 12-2.

The teams have met once. East won in two sets in tournament play on Aug. 13. MaxPreps ranks the Panthers No. 26 in the state.

Plano West vs. Euless Trinity

Plano West (26-7) finished third in the district at 10-4 but holds the highest state ranking of the three Plano ISD teams, No. 18 on MaxPreps. West's only losses outside district play came against Prosper Walnut Grove, Trophy Club Byron Nelson and Haslet Eaton.

Trinity (30-12) won District 8-6A at 13-1, making West's opener the toughest draw of the three on paper.

Coppell completes the district field

The fourth 7-6A qualifier, Coppell (19-12), plays Hurst L.D. Bell (26-16) at 6 p.m. Friday at Colleyville Heritage High School in Division II, on the same side of the bracket as Plano.

The road ahead

Thursday's survivors play again Nov. 2 or 3 in the area round. The UIL calendar then has regional semifinals Nov. 5-7 and regional finals Nov. 9-10, with the state tournament returning to Garland Nov. 19-21.

As 7-6A teams, East and West are in the same region of the Division I bracket, so wins by both would keep alive the chance of a third meeting between the rivals. East took both district matches, a sweep on Sept. 25 and a five-set win on Oct. 20.
