North Texas Performing Arts is preparing to relocate its operations to a new facility near West 15th Street and Independence Parkway in Plano. The organization is transforming a former Holiday Warehouse into a dedicated performing arts complex after its current location at the Shops at Willow Bend is scheduled to close in December.
This move coincides with the Dallas Stars preparing to occupy the shopping center.
CEO Darrell Rodenbaugh stated that the organization initially expected to remain at its current site for a longer period. "In fairness to them, they thought and we all thought, we were gonna have a long home and I think we were all surprised," Rodenbaugh said. Rather than seeking another temporary arrangement, the group decided to build a permanent home tailored to its youth programs.
The search for a new location was limited to Plano, with specific requirements including high ceilings, ample space, and easy access. These criteria narrowed the options quickly. The organization is currently conducting a $2.5 million capital campaign titled "Save Our Stages" to fund the relocation and construction of the new headquarters.
The new facility will feature three theaters, including two black box stages and a main stage, along with four rehearsal studios, two dance studios, private session rooms, and a set-build shop. Rodenbaugh noted that the design maximizes the available square footage, describing the architect’s work as efficient in utilizing nearly every inch of the building.
