Nguyen has been appointed as the new manager of Dallas Trinity FC, marking a return to the region where he was born and raised. Richardson, the location of his upbringing, is situated approximately 5 miles south of Plano.
Nguyen brings a distinguished playing background to the role. He was a finalist for the 2014 MLS Most Valuable Player Award and earned a spot in the MLS Best XI. During his career, he helped guide the New England Revolution to the MLS Cup Final and later won the 2019 Supporters’ Shield with Los Angeles FC. He also made nine appearances for the United States Men’s National Team.
A dual citizen of the United States and Vietnam, Nguyen played youth soccer for the Dallas Texans before attending Plano East Senior High School and Indiana University. He also became the first American to play in Vietnam’s top professional league.
His path to coaching began during the pandemic when he returned to North Texas to coach girls’ teams for the Dallas Texans. This experience helped transition him from playing to management. He now returns to lead the club into a new phase.
Nguyen expressed enthusiasm about the position in a statement. He described the role as an incredible opportunity and noted the club’s strong foundation. He stated he looks forward to working with players, staff, and supporters to build on that progress. He emphasized that Dallas remains a part of his identity and that he is honored to help shape the club’s future and grow the women’s game in the community.
