The Federal Aviation Administration worked Monday to restore an air traffic control connection after technical failures in Philadelphia disrupted flights at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field. Dallas is about 18 miles south of Plano.
FlightAware reported hundreds of cancellations at DFW, where departing flights were running about 49 minutes late and delays were increasing. The Philadelphia center also manages traffic affecting Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark airports, with disruptions reaching airports nationwide. The facility was connected to major problems at Newark Liberty International Airport in spring 2025.
The FAA said its primary data circuit failed Monday morning. A backup could not be used after workers discovered a severed fiber-optic line. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said an Amtrak construction crew caused the damage.
FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said a new circuit could restore the main connection before repairs to the backup line are complete. Verizon technicians were also working on service, and Bedford said the fiber repair could take about 13 hours.
Some service had resumed at LaGuardia, Kennedy and Philadelphia by early afternoon, though substantial delays were expected for the rest of the day. Airlines were allowing some flight changes without fees, and the FAA advised travelers to check with their airline before heading to the airport.
