Plano East, Plano West, and Plano are currently tied for the top spot in District 7-6A volleyball, each holding a 4-1 league record. The three Plano ISD teams are all in contention for the district title as the schedule approaches its midpoint.
This marks the second consecutive season where all three of the district's volleyball programs have qualified for the playoffs, a feat last achieved in 2008.
Plano East secured its position atop the standings by defeating Plano 3-1 on the road. The Lady Panthers extended their winning streak against the Lady Wildcats to 12 consecutive games. After Plano took the third set, East responded with a 16-6 run to close out the fourth frame 25-15. The set scores were 25-22, 25-22, 25-23, and 25-15 in favor of East.
Plano West also moved into the three-way tie after overcoming a first-set loss to Richardson Pearce. The Lady Wolves won the match 3-1 with set scores of 21-25, 25-12, 25-14, and 25-17. This victory kept the team in first place alongside its Plano rivals.
Coppell fell out of the top tier of the district standings after losing 3-1 to Lake Highlands on Tuesday. The Cowgirls had entered the week tied for second place but now share fourth place with Lake Highlands at a 3-2 record. Senior Brooke Felix led Coppell with 15 kills, while three different hitters recorded double-digit kill totals.
