High school athletic programs across Collin County are preparing for the 2026-27 season following the University Interscholastic League’s biennial realignment. The restructuring moved Celina, Frisco Panther Creek, Prosper Walnut Grove, and Prosper Richland up a classification. Plano ISD also experienced a change in its competitive landscape. Allen is located approximately 6 miles north of Plano.
The UIL’s February realignment split the nine-team 6-6A district. Plano ISD schools joined Richardson ISD programs, while Allen, McKinney ISD, Prosper ISD, and Princeton remained together. The league also adjusted placements for Frisco Wakeland, Jesuit, and Coppell. Wakeland moved to 5-6A, Jesuit to 6-6A, and Coppell to 7-6A. These changes are expected to increase the competitive level in their new districts.
Some observers suggest the league could have kept Coppell in 5-6A and Jesuit in 7-6A while moving Wakeland to 6-6A. That alternative would have aligned Coppell closer to Lewisville ISD schools and reduced travel for Wakeland to Denton or Jesuit to McKinney and Princeton. The decision to divide Frisco ISD non-football sports into separate regions was also noted as a significant shift. While this separated Reedy, Lone Star, and Panther Creek from the 11-5A group, it may prevent Frisco schools from eliminating each other in the bi-district round over the next two years.
Allen enters the new cycle with strong momentum. The Eagles made the playoffs in all nine bracket sports during the 2025-26 season and won district titles in six: volleyball, football, boys basketball, girls basketball, boys soccer, girls soccer, softball, baseball, and team tennis. Allen shared the 6-6A championship in volleyball, football, boys basketball, team tennis, softball, and baseball. Returning talent suggests the program could repeat in several of these events.
The volleyball team returns three of its top four hitters, who are juniors. The softball team, which went unbeaten through the district, features a group of underclassmen after graduating only three seniors. Allen also fields the district’s deepest tennis lineup. Although the football program graduated 40 seniors, it retains significant talent.
