The Dallas Morning News will establish a temporary newsroom in downtown Plano from September 28 through September 30. This initiative marks the fourth such event in the past year and is the newspaper's northernmost location to date. The goal is to allow residents of Collin County to interact directly with the reporters and editors covering North Texas.
The main newsroom operations will take place at the Rooftop Event Spot at the Urban Rio restaurant. Hours are set from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on September 28 and 29, and from 9 a.m. to noon on September 30.
Angela Mathew, a Collin County reporter for the paper, stated that there is significant interest in news about growing cities and that the organization is dedicated to telling those stories.
Additional events are scheduled throughout the three-day period. On the evening of September 28, a discussion titled "The Art of Place" will be held at Ten 20 Gallery starting at 6 p.m. In partnership with gallery owner Kendrix Wesley, the event will focus on public support for the arts in North Texas.
Wesley described the gathering as a space for the community to share stories and goals.
On the morning of September 29, journalists will meet with attendees at Lemma Coffee from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. for informal conversation. That same evening, a panel discussion on "The Future of Collin County" will occur at the Urban Rio rooftop space. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the event beginning at 6 p.m. The discussion will explore growth trends in the region.
