The Dallas Morning News is establishing a temporary newsroom in downtown Plano to engage with residents and local stakeholders. Scheduled for September 28 through 30, the initiative marks the newspaper’s fourth pop-up event in the past year and its northernmost location to date. The effort is part of a broader strategy to strengthen connections with North Texas communities and foster trust with local audiences.
Reporters and editors will be stationed at the Rooftop Event Spot at Urban Rio, located at 1000 14th St. #100. The newsroom will operate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on September 28 and 29, with hours ending at noon on September 30.
Residents are invited to visit during these times to ask questions, introduce themselves to staff, and learn more about the newsroom’s coverage of Collin County. Angela Mathew, a reporter covering the area, noted that there is significant interest in news about growing cities and that the team is dedicated to telling those stories.
The schedule includes several specific community engagements. On the evening of September 28, the newsroom will partner with Ten 20 Gallery for an event titled “The Art of Place.” Starting at 6 p.m., this gathering will focus on public support for the arts in North Texas.
Kendrix Wesley, the gallery owner, described the event as a space for the community to share stories and connect with local artists, noting that journalists and artists both tell stories in different formats.
On the morning of September 29, journalists will hold casual conversations with attendees at Lemma Coffee from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Later that evening, a panel discussion on “The Future of Collin County” will take place at the Urban Rio rooftop. Moderated by reporters, the session begins at 6 p.m. and will explore the region’s growth in business, education, and politics.
