Frisco, located approximately 12 miles northwest of Plano, is currently hosting the Nexo Dallas Open, a tennis tournament featuring a $500,000 prize pool. The event draws top American players, including past champions Tommy Paul and Riley Opelka, as well as rising stars. The tournament has grown from a single meeting in 2020 into a significant regional attraction, offering luxury fan experiences beyond standard seating. The Dallas Cowboys’ DeMarvion Overshown also participated in local holiday activities, surprising children at a Boys & Girls Club event.

In education news, Frisco Independent School District returned to normal operations on Monday following a brief security alert. Thousands of parents waited in lines to pick up students after the district placed all campuses in a modified secure status due to threatening emails. Police later determined the threats were non-credible and confirmed that everyone was safe. The incident caused significant disruption but resulted in no injuries.

Local law enforcement has addressed several other incidents. A McKinney man received a life sentence without parole for a 2017 Frisco murder that remained unsolved for years. In a separate case, a 42-year-old suspect was arrested after a stolen vehicle alert triggered a chase and barricade at a Frisco home on New Year's Eve. Additionally, Myles Jack faces charges of deadly conduct for discharging a firearm in certain municipalities.

Other local developments include a sledding investigation by Frisco police that left one 16-year-old girl dead and another in critical condition. A North Texas woman is speaking out about a four-year stalking ordeal after her stalker received a 20-year sentence. Meanwhile, La Finca Coffee & Bakery reported a 30% revenue drop due to torn sidewalks and limited parking. Smith and other Main Street business owners have complained to the city about these impacts. Weather alerts remain in place through Tuesday for cold temperatures and icy roads. Further details on some ongoing investigations are not yet clear.
