Hugs Café Inc. has opened a new $10 million headquarters in McKinney, a city located approximately 13 miles north of Plano. The nonprofit organization, which focuses on providing job training and employment opportunities for adults with disabilities, inaugurated the facility on July 2.

The two-story building spans 13,500 square feet and consolidates the group’s café operations, hospitality training academy, and administrative offices into a single location. The site is situated at 221 Andrews St. in downtown McKinney. The facility includes a training kitchen, four classrooms, a rooftop deck, and an outdoor patio.

The new space significantly increases the organization's capacity to serve participants. The building doubles the number of trainees Hugs can accommodate simultaneously, raising the limit from six to twelve individuals per class. Founder and Chief Executive Officer Ruth Thompson stated that the organization can now train up to 32 people during each 12-week semester.

To support the project, the McKinney Community Development Corp. provided $970,000 for infrastructure improvements. The development was overseen by KDC, with Corgan serving as the architect and Brasfield & Gorrie acting as the contractor. Construction on the project began in May of the previous year.

This investment marks another headquarters development in North Texas. The facility aims to enhance the ability of Hugs to prepare adults with disabilities for careers within the hospitality sector. Further details regarding specific job placement outcomes or long-term financial projections were not provided in the source material.
