North Texas Performing Arts (NTPA) is preparing to relocate its operations from the Shops at Willow Bend to a new facility in Plano. The organization’s current lease at the shopping center ends in December, coinciding with the Dallas Stars’ planned move into the same development.
CEO Darrell Rodenbaugh noted that the timeline for leaving the current location was shorter than anticipated by both parties. Rather than seeking another temporary venue, NTPA has selected a vacant warehouse near West 15th Street and Independence Parkway to serve as its permanent headquarters. The site is an old Holiday Warehouse.
The nonprofit narrowed its search to three specific options within Plano that met strict criteria, including high ceilings, ample square footage, and accessibility. Rodenbaugh stated that the organization focused exclusively on Plano locations during the selection process.
Construction activities, including demolition, are currently underway at the new site. NTPA aims to begin moving in after December 1 and targets its first performance at the location for the third week of January. The group is funding the $2.5 million relocation and buildout through a capital campaign titled "Save Our Stages."
The planned complex will feature three theaters, including two black box stages and one main stage, along with four rehearsal studios, two dance studios, private session rooms, and a set-building workshop. Rodenbaugh described the design as maximizing nearly every inch of the building.
