A multi-vehicle collision at a busy Plano intersection resulted in three hospitalizations after a sport utility vehicle crossed a median and entered oncoming traffic lanes. The incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of eastbound East Parker Road and Avenue K.
According to the Plano Police Department, a silver Ford Explorer was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed when it crossed the center median into the westbound lanes. The vehicle struck a pedestrian standing in the median, throwing the person into the side of another eastbound vehicle.
The SUV then continued eastbound in the wrong direction, crossing Avenue K and colliding with five vehicles that were stopped at a red light.
Police reported that seven vehicles sustained damage in the chain-reaction crash. Emergency responders transported the driver of the Ford Explorer, the pedestrian, and one other motorist to a local hospital for medical treatment. No other injuries were reported at the scene.
