Paul Campbell, a 64-year-old elementary school teacher for the Plano Independent School District, was arrested on a charge of continuous abuse of a child. The arrest occurred on Wednesday, according to a statement released by the school district.

Plano police confirmed they took Campbell into custody after a student reported inappropriate physical contact while at Brinker Elementary, where Campbell was employed. Law enforcement officials stated that Campbell is currently being held in the Plano City Jail.

In response to the incident, the district issued a statement acknowledging the report from Plano police. Officials described the alleged conduct as reprehensible and noted that it is entirely inconsistent with the values and expectations held for all Plano ISD employees.

The district confirmed it is cooperating with police investigators. Additionally, Plano ISD reported the alleged incident to the Texas Education Agency and the State Board for Educator Certification. The district stated it has initiated action to address Campbell's employment status.
