Plano police arrested a 64-year-old elementary school teacher on Wednesday, charging him with continuous sexual abuse of a child. The suspect, identified as Paul Campbell, was taken into custody in the parking lot of the Plano ISD Administration Building.
The arrest follows an investigation by the Plano Police Department into reports from students regarding inappropriate physical contact at Brinker Elementary School. Officers obtained an arrest warrant based on these student accounts. Campbell is currently being held in the Plano City Jail.
Plano ISD confirmed it is aware of the charges against Campbell, who was employed as a teacher at Brinker Elementary. In a statement released after the arrest, the district described the alleged conduct as reprehensible and entirely inconsistent with its values and expectations for staff members.
The district stated it is fully cooperating with law enforcement as they lead the criminal investigation. Plano ISD also noted that it promptly terminated Campbell’s employment in accordance with Chapter 21 of the Texas Education Code. Additionally, the district has filed the required reports with the Texas Education Agency and the State Board for Educator Certification as mandated by state law.
District officials emphasized that they do not tolerate conduct that threatens student safety. They cited existing safeguards, including mandatory background checks, employee training on professional conduct, and clear procedures for responding to safety concerns. The district also reiterated mandatory reporting requirements for staff.
Out of respect for the privacy of the student and family involved, and because the investigation remains active, the district declined to provide further details. The name of the victim and the specific nature of the alleged contact were not disclosed.
