Plano Independent School District trustees voted unanimously on August 13 to issue a contract termination notice to Jennifer King, the principal of Brinker Elementary. The decision follows accusations that King did not report misconduct allegations involving Paul Campbell, a second-grade teacher who has been charged with sexually abusing female students in his classroom.
King has 15 days to appeal the board’s decision and request an administrative hearing. While the administration recommended termination for "good cause," the trustees did not publicly disclose the specific reasons for the action during the special board meeting.
A lawsuit filed against the district, Campbell, and King alleges that the principal ignored a parent’s report that Campbell had inappropriately touched a female student. The legal filing further claims that King denied a transfer request from another parent and failed to investigate the matter further.
In Texas, all adults are mandatory reporters of suspected child abuse, and school officials face criminal charges if they fail to report alleged abuse within a specific timeframe. Failure to report is a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in jail, or a state jail felony if the omission was an intentional effort to conceal the abuse.
The Plano Police Department confirmed that it has not received a failure to report complaint regarding King. Online records indicate King served as a principal in Plano ISD starting in the 2024-25 school year and previously worked as an assistant principal in Frisco ISD for nearly a decade.
Her teaching and principal certifications are not currently under review by the Texas Education Agency, although the district placed her on administrative leave in July when the allegations first surfaced.
