Baylor quarterback DJ Lagway is expected to miss the team’s Week 2 game against Prairie View A&M after suffering an ankle injury in the season opener against Auburn. It is not yet clear whether he will dress or be available in a limited role, and the report said the injury is not expected to keep him out long term.

Nate Bennett is expected to make his first career start for Baylor. Bennett has spent several years in the program and has appeared briefly as a backup, according to the report shared by college football insider Pete Thamel.

Lagway completed the Auburn game despite the injury, finishing with 333 yards and two touchdowns. Baylor lost when a possible game-winning two-point attempt came up short.

Lagway transferred to Baylor from Florida after two seasons there. During the 2025 season, he went 4-8 as a starter and threw five interceptions in a game against LSU. He also led Florida to a win over Texas.

Baylor’s next opponent after Prairie View A&M is Louisiana Tech. The Bears are scheduled to face BYU, Texas Tech and Houston later in the season, with BYU identified as their first currently ranked opponent on the schedule in the report.
