PHOENIX - The inning should have been over. Then it was not. Then Ezequiel Duran made sure it belonged to Texas.
Duran's two-run single to center scored Brandon Nimmo and Josh Jung and capped a six-run fifth as the Rangers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-2 on Saturday night, the Associated Press reported. ESPN's box lists Duran 1-for-5 with two RBI on the night - one swing that stretched a 4-1 lead to 6-1 and ended the damage against Brandon Pfaadt.
The decisive half-inning opened with Wyatt Langford's solo homer and kept going after a replay review kept Corey Seager safe at first. Arizona thought it had turned an inning-ending double play with the score tied 1-1; first-base umpire Bill Miller ruled Pfaadt's foot off the bag, the challenge was inconclusive, and Texas scored five more times after that call, per the AP.
Jung singled home Elias Diaz. Nimmo doubled home Seager. Duran delivered the last hit of the frame.
One swing after the review
Duran's role Saturday was not a multi-hit showcase. It was the finishing blow in a lineup that suddenly had traffic everywhere. Jake Burger had singled and stolen. Diaz had driven in a run. Pederson had been hit. Seager had stayed alive on the review. By the time Duran stepped in, the inning already had a crooked number; his single made it final.
Texas finished with 13 hits. Kumar Rocker gave Texas four innings and one run with five strikeouts before Robert Garcia (1-1) worked a clean fifth for the win. Nathan Eovaldi returned from the injured list and threw 2 2/3 innings of one-run relief. Pfaadt (7-3) allowed six runs on 10 hits over 6 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts.
Arizona's second run came on Corbin Carroll's sacrifice fly in the sixth. Ketel Marte went hitless. The Diamondbacks managed six hits as a club.
