Capital One Financial has disclosed plans to reduce its workforce at a location in Riverwoods, Illinois, citing ongoing financial restructuring. The company submitted a supplemental Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification on June 2, indicating the elimination of at least 276 roles.
The reductions are scheduled to occur between August 6 and September 4, according to filings with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. A company representative clarified the geographic distribution of the affected staff, noting that 141 individuals work directly at the Riverwoods facility.
An additional 10 employees reside in Illinois but work remotely, while 125 others are based outside the state yet report to the Riverwoods site.
A Capital One spokesperson attributed the cuts to the integration of Discover. "As part of our continued journey to integrate Discover with Capital One, we announced the difficult decision to eliminate some Discover associate roles across the organization," the spokesperson stated.
This announcement follows several previous workforce reductions at the same location. In September 2025, the corporation filed a notice to lay off 382 workers from the Riverwoods site, with the cuts taking effect on November 17 of that year. An additional 10 positions were scheduled to be eliminated on December 19, 2025.
