Bank of America has appointed two new executives to lead its efforts in digital assets and artificial intelligence, expanding its specialized teams for these technologies. Internal memos detailing the appointments were first reported by Reuters and Bloomberg.
Sonali Theisen was named head of the bank's global digital assets platform. She will oversee the design, development, scaling, and governance of the firm's digital assets infrastructure. This role is in addition to her current position leading electronic trading and strategic investments within the fixed income, currencies, and commodities division.
Theisen will work to integrate blockchain-based products into the bank's existing markets infrastructure. She will collaborate with Adam Dixon, the digital asset transformation chief, who manages tokenized deposits, stablecoins, digital collateral mobility, cryptocurrency trading settlement, and custody.
Kevin Milsom was appointed to lead the bank's AI transformation. His responsibilities include implementing artificial intelligence across the bank's global markets platforms.
These moves follow a broader trend among traditional financial institutions building dedicated teams for digital assets and AI. Vanguard recently began searching for its first head of digital assets to develop a crypto strategy for personal wealth clients and engage with regulators. Morgan Stanley appointed Amy Oldenburg in January to lead its digital asset strategy after filing to list spot Bitcoin and Solana exchange-traded funds.
Oldenburg stated in April that crypto is becoming part of the firm's daily business operations as it integrates tokenization with existing infrastructure.
