RawHide Pictures, the studio behind a biographical film about former President Ronald Reagan, is publicly questioning Bank of America’s decision to close its corporate accounts. The production company asserts that the bank provided no justification for the closure and continues to refuse to explain the reasoning behind cutting ties with the filmmakers.

According to a letter from 2021 reviewed by RawHide Pictures, the bank initially notified the company that it would be shutting down its accounts. The company’s access to funds was eventually restored following an appeal, but the incident forced the studio to urgently seek alternative banking services during that interim period.

The studio links this specific incident to a wider trend of financial exclusion affecting conservative figures and organizations. The claim notes that Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase reportedly rejected deposits from former President Donald Trump after he left office. Trump stated that these rejections were part of a coordinated effort by major financial institutions and social media platforms to isolate him from public life.

This pattern of exclusion is described as accelerating after the January 6, 2021, events at the U.S. Capitol, where Trump’s social media accounts were suspended. The narrative suggests that such measures began earlier, including Twitter’s suspension of Trump’s account in July 2020 and media outlets avoiding his speeches regarding election claims.

Additionally, the source indicates that Bank of America announced in 2018 it would cease services to certain gun manufacturers, a policy it later reversed. This move is characterized as setting a precedent for excluding groups disfavored by the political left from the financial system. The text also references past government scrutiny of conservative groups applying for nonprofit status by the IRS.

The U.S. Department of Justice under Trump’s administration issued subpoenas to both JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America to investigate these practices. RawHide Pictures maintains that the public deserves full transparency regarding the extent of these de-banking efforts.

Bank of America employs about 6,566 people in Plano, according to local government records.
