LGUplus and Ericsson have formed a partnership to advance network-based voice artificial intelligence, with plans to promote the technology internationally. The two companies aim to provide users with a more convenient communication experience by allowing them to access services through voice commands.
The collaboration involves joint service development and system integration. LGUplus expects to complete technical validation of the envisioned service within a year. The operator believes this technology will eventually become a core element of communications networks.
The initiative utilizes technology from LGUplus’s AI call agent, ixi-O, combined with Ericsson’s network products and expertise. The companies stated that end users will be able to access support from AI assistants during calls. Other potential applications for the voice AI technology include smart eyewear and humanoid robots.
LGUplus president and CEO Hong Beom-sik said the technology they plan to bring to the global market would offer a smarter and more convenient communication experience. He predicted the partnership would contribute to the operator’s growth in the mid- to long-term.
In addition to voice AI, the pair plan to collaborate on AI-native network fields. Their goal is to achieve greater optimization and automation in these areas. Ericsson network chief and incoming CEO Per Narvinger noted that the companies aim to enhance customer experience and operational efficiency based on network-based voice AI and native networks.
Narvinger expressed support for AI-native networks becoming the core technology foundation for creating new growth engines for the telecommunications business in the future. The companies are also jointly seeking fresh business opportunities in these areas.
