Toyota has introduced an updated version of its Tundra pickup truck for the 2027 model year, highlighting a refreshed exterior design, new technology, and an expanded factory-built overlanding option. The announcement was made in Plano, Texas, on July 21, 2026.

The 2027 Tundra features a redesigned front end developed by Toyota’s CALTY Design Research team in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The update emphasizes a sharper, more purposeful appearance with a wide, stable stance and a hexagonal grille theme.

Rectangular fog lights are integrated into the lower bumper, and the overall design aims to balance ruggedness with a more refined aesthetic based on customer feedback regarding how owners use the vehicle.

A key addition to the lineup is the new Trailhunter package, which is built on the SR5 grade. This package is designed for off-road capability and includes Michelin LTX Trail tires, an upgraded Old Man Emu suspension, front recovery hooks, and additional underbody protection. It also features Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control, and a locking rear differential.

The package is distinguished by unique bronze-colored wheels and exclusive badges, and it is positioned at an accessible price point to attract customers seeking adventure-ready features.

Inside the cabin, the truck now comes standard with the latest Toyota Audio Multimedia system. The update includes a standard 14-inch touchscreen, which replaces previous screen sizes. The system integrates AT&T 5G network connectivity and offers customizable widgets on the home screen. It also features an embedded voice assistant that responds to "Hey Toyota" prompts with faster processing speeds.

All 2027 Tundra models will come standard with Toyota Safety Sense 4.0. While the exterior updates, new package, and interior technology have been revealed, Toyota has stated that full details for the 2027 Tundra, including pricing and specific trim configurations, are planned to be announced in the fall of 2026.

The updated truck reflects Toyota’s ongoing effort to align its full-size vehicles with active lifestyles and genuine truck capability. The design and feature updates are intended to support a broader range of customer needs, from off-road exploration to premium daily driving.

Toyota Motor North America employs about 4,938 people in Plano, according to local government records.
