Zain Bahrain has successfully integrated artificial intelligence capabilities into its live 5G radio network, marking the first time an operator in the region has achieved this milestone. The deployment was executed in partnership with Ericsson and utilizes the vendor's AI-native Scheduler for Link Adaptation solution.
The technology enables the network to make real-time decisions based on fluctuating demand and usage patterns. According to the company, this results in improved overall performance and efficiency. Zain Bahrain stated that the move supports its broader strategy to embed AI across operations, network capabilities, and customer service.
Ali Isa Al Yaham, the company's Chief Technology Officer, described the achievement as a major step in building future-ready networks. He noted that the initiative goes beyond technology introduction to deliver tangible benefits for users, including faster and more reliable connectivity.
Al Yaham explained that the deployment aligns with Zain Bahrain's strategic direction to advance Bahrain's national digital transformation and support the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030. The company aims to evolve from a traditional telecommunications provider into a leading technology solutions provider.
The operator indicated that customers will experience smoother and more resilient mobile experiences, particularly when using data-intensive services such as video streaming, online gaming, video conferencing, social media, and cloud applications. The company reported measurable improvements in network speed and efficiency as a result of the AI integration.
