Man, 56, dies after shooting in southern Dallas

Dallas police confirmed that a 56-year-old man died following an early morning shooting in the southern part of the city. The incident occurred on Thursday, July 2, in the 3500 block of La France Street.

Officers arrived at the scene around 2:15 a.m. after receiving a call regarding a shooting. Dallas Fire-Rescue personnel transported the victim, identified as Charles Baldwin, to a local hospital. Baldwin later succumbed to his injuries.

According to a preliminary investigation, Baldwin was shot by a suspect who was known to him. Police have not released additional details regarding the suspect's identity or the specific circumstances leading to the shooting. The investigation remains active.

The case will be referred to a grand jury. Under Texas law, homicide cases where potential justification or legal defenses may apply are typically presented to a grand jury to determine if criminal charges are warranted.

Dallas is located approximately 18 miles south of Plano. Further details about the suspect or the investigation have not yet been provided.
