A suspect involved in a Plano homicide investigation died after a high-speed pursuit ended in a crash on Interstate 35 in northern Denton County on Monday, Sept. 14, 2026. The incident began when a Texas State Trooper attempted to stop the driver, who allegedly fired at the officer before fleeing northbound toward Cooke County.
Valley View Police responded to the scene around 10 a.m. to assist with the chase. According to the department, the driver crashed between View Road and Chisam Road, a stretch located north of Sanger and south of Valley View. After the vehicle stopped, officers surrounded the car, leading to a standoff.
Valley View Police stated that the suspect vehicle caught fire during the incident and that the individual inside was later confirmed deceased at the scene. The department did not specify how the fire started or the exact cause of death.
The crash, reported just before 11 a.m. between exits 481 and 482, caused significant disruption to northbound traffic. Congestion backed up approximately five miles to exit 477. Authorities have since reopened the northbound lanes. A Texas Sky Ranger aircraft recorded video of the scene in the afternoon, showing a fire-damaged vehicle and scorched grass in the median.
The pursuit was linked to a shooting that occurred just after 10 p.m. Sunday at a residence on the 1100 block of Lakestream Drive in Plano. Plano Police reported that officers found a person deceased with multiple apparent gunshot wounds upon arrival.
