Paul Campbell, a 64-year-old former elementary school teacher for Plano ISD, has been released from the Collin County Jail after posting bond. His attorney confirmed to FOX 4 that Campbell secured his release on Friday, September 11. He is no longer listed as an inmate in the county jail system.

Campbell faces one count of sexual abuse of a child and three counts of indecency with a child. These charges follow his initial arrest on July 8, when he was charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child. The bond amount for his recent release has not been disclosed. His original bond was set at $2.5 million following his July arrest.

A judge rejected Campbell’s request to reduce that initial bond during a hearing on July 31. Parents of the alleged victims attended that proceeding. Police obtained the additional warrants after investigators received reports from other students regarding similar incidents.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, the allegations stem from conduct at Brinker Elementary School over the past academic year. An eight-year-old girl reported to her parents during the Fourth of July weekend that Campbell touched her inappropriately while she was at his desk asking a question. She stated this occurred repeatedly throughout the school year.

The student also told authorities that a friend and possibly other female classmates experienced similar treatment. She noted she did not witness any such behavior involving male students. Investigators said two additional victims came forward after the first student spoke out. A fourth student, who was in Campbell’s class two years prior, reported being touched inappropriately while sitting on his lap.

Authorities indicate more students have come forward, but no further charges have been filed at this time. One family of a victim has filed a lawsuit against Plano ISD, Campbell, and Brinker Elementary principal Jennifer King. The suit alleges King failed to report the allegations to law enforcement.

Plano ISD voted unanimously on August 13 to terminate King’s contract as principal. Details regarding the specific timeline of any internal reports or administrative actions prior to that vote are not yet clear.
