Fort Worth firefighters are marking the first anniversary of the July 2025 Guadalupe River disaster with personal reminders of the tragedy. Station 2 houses a rock inscribed with the camp’s name and a helmet sticker from Cecilia Steward, a missing camper. The floodwaters rose rapidly, killing more than 130 people, including 25 campers and two counselors at Camp Mystic. Steward and Jeff Ramsey remain unaccounted for.

Responders from across the Dallas-Fort Worth area, including Plano and Bedford, joined thousands of others in the rescue effort. Out-of-state teams also assisted. Firefighters described the difficulty of receiving constant calls from families seeking updates on missing loved ones. The emotional weight of the loss was compounded for some by personal connections to those who died or went missing.

The scale of the response required extensive travel and coordination. Bedford water rescue teams logged thousands of miles while moving between evacuation zones and recovery sites. Officials noted that the situation worsened daily, leading to continuous deployments of additional personnel and resources over several months.
