Plano police announced the arrest of a Dallas man on Wednesday in connection with a child sexual abuse investigation involving an elementary school student. Officers executed an arrest warrant on July 8 for 64-year-old Paul Campbell, charging him with continuous sexual abuse of a child.
Detectives stated they obtained the warrant after investigating allegations made by a student regarding inappropriate physical contact at Brinker Elementary School within the Plano Independent School District. Campbell was employed as a teacher at the school at the time of the alleged incident. The specific date when the alleged conduct occurred has not been disclosed.
Plano ISD officials issued a statement confirming they are aware of the arrest. The district characterized the alleged behavior as reprehensible and noted it is inconsistent with the organization's expectations for its staff. District representatives said they are fully cooperating with the Plano Police Department as the investigation proceeds.
Campbell is currently being held in the Plano City Jail. Police indicated the probe remains active and is being managed by the department's Special Victims Unit. The district has taken employment-related action against Campbell in accordance with Chapter 21 of the Texas Education Code. Additionally, the case has been reported to the Texas Education Agency and the State Board for Educator Certification, as mandated by law.
Out of respect for the student and family involved, and because the investigation is ongoing, the district said it will not release additional details. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Plano Police Special Victims Unit Tipline at 972-941-2044.
