Baylor defensive tackle Devonte Tezino will miss the rest of the season because of a leg injury suffered during the Bears’ victory over Prairie View A&M on Saturday.
Tezino had quickly become a key contributor on Baylor’s defensive front. He posted two sacks against Auburn, and coach Dave Aranda identified him after the season opener as likely the team’s top interior defensive lineman.
Aranda said Baylor will miss Tezino’s contributions and expressed sympathy for the work the player had put into reaching that point in the season. Tezino’s absence leaves the Bears to rely more heavily on their remaining interior linemen.
Aranda highlighted Braylen Jackson as one player who could receive additional opportunities. Jackson has demonstrated his effectiveness against the run, with Aranda describing him as a physical defender who can create movement at the line of scrimmage.
Baylor entered the season with its defensive line viewed as a major strength, but Tezino’s injury will test the unit’s depth after the first two games. The remaining linemen will be expected to help maintain the front’s pressure and run defense.
