The Dallas Cowboys have added running back Tyler Goodson after Malik Davis suffered a hip injury that requires surgery and will keep him out for the remainder of the season. The signing was reported by Houston television reporter Aaron Wilson on Sept. 15.
Goodson, 25, originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Green Bay Packers in 2023. After being released, he joined the Indianapolis Colts and appeared in 33 games over three seasons, carrying 54 times for 264 yards, or 4.9 yards per attempt.
He also played a substantial role on special teams for Indianapolis, recording 304 special-teams snaps during the past two seasons. That work could be relevant for Dallas as it replaces Davis, who had moved from the practice squad into a larger role with the team.
The Colts released Goodson before he joined the Atlanta Falcons for training camp. Atlanta also cut him, but he went unclaimed on waivers and returned to the Falcons’ practice squad before the Cowboys signed him this week.
Dallas elevated Emari Demercado into the No. 2 running back role for its game against the New York Giants. Demercado had two carries for seven yards behind starter Javonte Williams. The Cowboys ran 18 times in that game, with Williams receiving 12 carries. He also caught five passes for 35 yards and a touchdown.
