Plano, Texas — July 6 marked the official completion of two Dallas Mavericks trades, as the club brought in forward Santi Aldama from Memphis and guard Marcus Sasser from Detroit. The NBA moratorium lifted at noon Eastern, allowing the deals to be finalized.

To land Aldama, the Mavericks parted with AJ Johnson, a 2030 first-round pick through Golden State that is protected 1 through 20, and two additional second-round picks. The 7-foot forward averaged 14 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists last season, all career highs, and shot 35 percent from three. Dallas also gained the draft rights to Tarik Biberovic, who competes in EuroLeague and the Turkish Basketball Super League.

Sasser arrives from the Pistons, who drafted him 25th overall in 2023. He contributed 5.2 points and 2.0 assists in 38 games and connected on 41.5 percent of his three-point tries. NBA insider Marc Stein reported that Dallas used the Warriors 2030 first-rounder, acquired in the Anthony Davis trade, to facilitate both transactions.

The pair of moves gives the Mavericks a bigger wing scorer and a bench guard who can stretch the floor. Both deals centered on the protected 2030 first-round pick Dallas obtained from Golden State.

Teams across the league were able to complete previously reported signings and trades once the moratorium expired on July 6.
