Plano Mayor John Muns says the city’s recent economic wins stem from a strategy focused on maintaining strong ties with businesses. He told CBS News Texas that the administration prioritizes regular check-ins rather than annual visits to ensure companies can operate quickly and efficiently.

The city is pursuing a user-tax funding model for the Dallas Stars’ new arena at Willow Bend Mall, which would avoid property tax increases. Muns noted that funds would also support future arena maintenance. Additionally, officials are discussing potential DART light rail expansions to serve the area.

Plano also secured AT&T’s new headquarters on the former EDS site in West Plano, where 10,000 employees will work. Samsung will move its corporate headquarters from New Jersey to the city, though it remains unclear if the company will construct new offices or utilize existing space along Central Expressway and Legacy. Muns described the Samsung announcement as a surprise, noting that while city leaders met with Samsung executives in South Korea in April, the relocation was not discussed during those meetings.
