Plano, Texas — The Texas Longhorns added a foundational recruit to their 2027 class on Independence Day when five-star offensive tackle Ismael Camara of Gilmer, Texas, announced his commitment to the program. Camara selected Texas from a list of finalists that included Oregon, SMU, LSU, and Alabama.
Standing 6-foot-5 and weighing 225 pounds, Camara is regarded as one of the premier offensive line prospects in the nation. His story is distinctive among elite recruits: born and raised in Le Mans, France, he moved to the United States in his early high school years and took up football relatively recently. The 247Sports scouting report highlights his rare physical tools and functional athleticism, drawing a parallel to NFL lineman Kadyn Proctor of the Miami Dolphins.
Kyle Flood, the Longhorns' offensive line coach, was the lead recruiter for Camara. The tackle took official visits to LSU, Texas, and Oregon on June 5, June 12, and June 19, respectively, before making his pledge on July 4. His first season of varsity football came as a junior in 2025 at Gilmer High School, where he played left tackle, multiple defensive line spots, and served as personal protector on the punt unit. Texas transfer rules had limited him to sub-varsity play as a sophomore.
Camara's athleticism is further evidenced by his track and field accomplishments. He has thrown the shot put 46-8.5 and the discus 135-6, and he possesses notable weight room numbers. Analysts have pointed to his quick feet for his size, his punishing playing style, and the flexibility to project at tackle or guard in college as key attributes of his game.
