Dominant Pitching Performance
The Texas Rangers’ offensive struggles continued on Saturday as they were held scoreless for the entire game by a Detroit Tigers team that relied on timely hitting and a stifling pitching performance. The final score of 3-0 reflected a complete team effort from Detroit, which limited Arlington to just three hits over the course of the contest.
Detroit’s starting pitcher, Jack Flaherty, set the tone early and maintained control through five and two-thirds innings. Flaherty allowed only three hits and two earned runs, but crucially, he did not allow any of those runs to cross the plate after the initial surge. His performance earned him the win, improving his record to 2-8. He struck out five batters while issuing no walks, showcasing the command that kept the Rangers’ lineup in check for the majority of the game.
Late Inning Relief
After Flaherty exited, Tyler Holton pitched the final out of the sixth inning, preserving the shutout bid. Holton, who earned the hold with his ninth of the season, faced one batter and recorded an out without allowing a hit or walk. The ninth inning was handled by Keider Montero, who secured the save with his first of the year. Montero pitched three full innings, allowing no hits or earned runs, though he did issue one walk. His steady work closed the door on any potential Rangers rally.
For Texas, Cal Quantrill took the loss, falling to 3-1 on the season. He pitched five innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs, while striking out two batters and walking one. Tyler Alexander pitched one inning, striking out two batters, while Benjamin Peoples worked two innings, allowing two hits and striking out one. Chris Martin closed out the game for the Rangers with one inning of work, allowing one hit and striking out one batter.
